You're Invited: Annual Plant Sale Returns to Cape Cod For 26th Year
This year's sale will feature an expanded selection of pollinator-friendly native plants as well as unique varieties of perennials, vegetables, companion annuals, herbs, and dahlias locally grown.
The Master Gardener Association of Cape Cod (MGACC) is preparing for its upcoming 26th Annual Plant Sale, which promises to be an exciting event for garden enthusiasts. They explain that this year's sale will feature an expanded selection of pollinator-friendly native plants, "as well as unique varieties of perennials, vegetables, companion annuals, herbs, and dahlias locally grown by members of the Master Gardener Association of Cape Cod. As in past years, gardeners can continue to expect a vast selection of tomato plants, with an increased range of flavorful heirloom varieties!"
There will also be a dedicated tent adjacent to the main Marketplace Barn, where shoppers can find climate-appropriate hydrangeas, flowering rhododendrons, native azaleas, and kalmias. This year, they've also included a more efficient checkout system within the 7,200-square-foot venue.
The MGACC's website notes that their organization, established in 1993, emerged from a partnership between the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension and community volunteers. This local chapter continues the legacy of the Master Gardener program, which originated in Washington State in 1972. The Cape Cod group formed under the guidance of Roberta Clark, then Barnstable County Extension Educator, with their first class convening in 1990. Today, under the advisory leadership of Russell Norton, Horticulture Extension Educator, the association maintains its commitment to providing horticultural education throughout Barnstable County.
Proceeds from this rain-or-shine event support the organization's community outreach and educational initiatives. While credit cards are accepted, the organization prefers cash or check payments. Attendees should note that pets are not permitted at the fairgrounds. Scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025, the 26th Annual Plant Sale will take place at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds Marketplace Barn in East Falmouth from 9:00 AM until noon, or until plants are sold out.
For those interested in planning their visit, the MGACC website provides a detailed building layout to help locate specific plant varieties. Master Gardener volunteers will be available throughout the event to answer gardening questions and provide expert advice.
