Cowabunga Collectibles, the retro toy and game store that opened its doors at the Kingston Collection just over a week ago on Halloween, has launched its new gaming space. The store announced the opening of “Cowabunga Play Space,” a dedicated area for card games, board games, and tabletop gaming that will host free open play events every weekend.
“Our new, dedicated gaming area is officially ready for battle!” the store announced. “Get your decks, board games, and trading binders ready—we’re kicking off FREE Open Play every weekend with hopeful plans to expand to tournament play at some point in the future.” The store emphasized that sessions will have “no pressure, no entry fees, just pure vibes and great people.”
The weekly lineup begins with Magic and TCG Open Deck on Fridays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, where players can bring their decks for casual battles, trading, and deck testing. Saturdays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM will feature Pokémon TCG meetups suitable for all ages, with opportunities for card trading. Sundays, also from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, will offer table space for deeper card games and longer board game sessions, including Dungeons & Dragons and games like Catan.
To maintain a welcoming environment, Cowabunga Collectibles has established what it calls “The Clean Play Code.” The store stated, “We’re building a comfortable, inclusive community, so let’s keep our space pleasant for everyone.” The guidelines include a request for players to “be mindful of personal hygiene before attending,” noting that “a comfortable environment for all players means we ask that we show up clean and fresh.”
Additionally, the store has implemented a no outside food or drink policy in the play space, though it plans to “sell non-perishable snacks and drinks at some point soon.” The store also asks that players stay home if sick, explaining, “If you’re feeling under the weather or showing cold/flu symptoms, we’ll catch you next week! Health first!”
