How This Local Landscaper Mows Down Obstacles for Community Members in Need

A landscaping company in Southeastern Massachusetts is quietly changing what it means to be a neighborhood business, one lawn at a time. I recently spoke with owner Branden Galpin of Galpin Landscape LLC, who has established a unique program offering free lawn care services to community members facing illness or inability to maintain their properties, all while running a small landscaping business serving Rockland, Abington, Hanover, Whitman, Norwell, Hingham, Hanson, Kingston, and Pembroke.
“Honestly, it just feels good to help others as simple as that may sound,” explains Galpin, whose efforts stem from a history of helping his community. Before heading his own business, Galpin participated in fundraisers supporting school shooting victims and created care packages for Boston’s homeless population while also working for his father’s business alongside his mother and brother. When he bought the family business from his father in 2019, he saw an opportunity to integrate giving back into his daily operations.
Galpin Landscape provides comprehensive services including mulching, shrub trimming, walkway and patio installation, seasonal cleanups, and regular lawn maintenance. The company was founded by Branden’s father, Teddy Galpin, in the late 1960s. “To be able to keep something going that he spent his life building is really rewarding and inspiring to me,” Galpin says about continuing his father’s legacy.
This spirit of giving has infected Galpin’s team as well. Employee Zach Neumann notes, “It’s nice getting to know people in the community and it definitely feels good being able to help someone out. The world can definitely use some more kindness and positivity!” Fellow team member Jeffery Stevens adds, “Working with Galpin is so rewarding because I get to connect with customers and see firsthand how our landscaping brings joy to the community.”
While the pro bono work represents a cornerstone of the company’s values, Galpin acknowledges limitations as a small business. “We are a small company so we are only able to help out so many people each year. A majority of our clients are paying customers which we need to be able to do the pro bono work,” he explains. For community members interested in supporting this mission, the solution is straightforward: become a customer or refer others to Galpin Landscape’s services. As Galpin puts it, “Referrals are always appreciated as that’s the main way people hear about us. Our hope is that as the company grows, the more people we will be able to help out.” By choosing Galpin Landscape for professional landscaping needs, customers are helping a local business to continue its mission of caring for its community.
