Looking for a cozy spot to escape the rainy weather we’ve been having and enjoy some delicious comfort food? Look no further than Alibi Tavern in Whitman, Massachusetts. This charming establishment offers the perfect blend of casual dining and warm atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for both locals and visitors alike. From the welcoming service to the mouthwatering comfort food, this tavern delivers an experience that will have you planning your next visit before you even finish your meal (I know that I was!).
Upon entering, you'll be greeted by an inviting interior featuring dark wood accents and an impressive collection of all sorts of signs adorning the walls. The tavern has a long bar that runs along the entire establishment, and on the other side of a half wall, there is a mix of high-top and traditional tables. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between fun and cozy, with large windows offering a picturesque view of the church across the street.
The menu at Alibi Tavern doesn't disappoint, especially when it comes to their standout appetizers. The "Outrageous Onion Rings" ($10.50) live up to their name, serving up a generous portion of thin, shoestring-style rings that are perfectly crispy and seasoned. Their signature Smash Burger ($9.50) is another must-try, coming with your choice of fries, tots, or chips. I opted to add American cheese for an additional $0.75, and the result was a perfectly cooked, mouthwatering burger served with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. The accompanying crinkle-cut fries were golden and crispy – exactly how they should be. I can't wait to return and try more of their menu!
Aside from the delicious food, the service at Alibi Tavern stands out as a highlight of my dining experience. Multiple servers, including my waitress, Barbara, provided attentive and friendly service throughout the meal. The staff regularly checked in, promptly cleared plates, and went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience. Despite the bustling atmosphere, both service and food preparation were remarkably quick.
While street parking can be challenging depending on the day and time, the food and service make any parking inconvenience worthwhile. Located at 546 Washington Street in Whitman, Alibi Tavern proves to be a hidden gem worth visiting. Whether you're seeking shelter from the rain or simply craving a delicious meal in a welcoming environment, this tavern delivers on all fronts. With its reasonable prices, generous portions, and outstanding service, it's definitely earned its place on my list of go-to restaurants in the area.
