Discover Local History at Taunton's 250th Anniversary Celebration of Liberty & Union Day
Whether you're new to the area or have lived here all your life, Liberty and Union Day is a festival that will help you uncover the local history of Taunton in a fun and exciting way.
The Old Colony History Museum has invited the community to the 250th Anniversary celebration of Liberty and Union Day, an annual event that celebrates Taunton, Massachusetts' rich history and culture. "This year marks the 250th anniversary of the raising of the Liberty & Union flag in opposition to the British on October 21, 1774. To celebrate this grand occasion, the Old Colony History Museum is hosting a one-day festival that features what life was like in 1774 through a variety of local colonial crafter demonstrations, Continental and British reenactors, delicious food, as well as plenty of family-friendly activities," explains the local history museum. "Join us for a vibrant and fun fall experience in the heart of beautiful Taunton."
Liberty and Union Day is being hosted on Church Green outside of the Old Colony History Museum on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 11 am until 4 pm. This free-to-attend festival is a family-friendly event that will have something for everyone to enjoy. The Old Colony History Museum has revealed the day's schedule of events, which include:
11:00 AM Opening Ceremony & Community Aerial Photo
12:00 PM Bristol County Convention Reenactment
1:15 PM Meet Daniel Leonard
2:15 PM Meet Mercy Otis Warren & James Warren
3:15 PM 13th Continental Regiment Musket Firing & Marching Demonstration
4:00 PM Flag Lowering
The Old Colony History Museum also revealed the ongoing activities at Liberty and Union Day will include the following:

Anawan Farm
Hidden Hollow Alpacas & Goats
Family colonial games & crafts
Reenactor Living Histories
There will also be free guided tours of the Old Colony History Museum at 1 PM, 2 PM, and 3 PM. "Discover the incredible stories of Taunton and the Old Colony region as our Curator brings to life the people, places, and events that shaped our community," invites the local history museum.
