Frates Drive-In Restaurant, a beloved local establishment in Taunton, has announced its opening day for the 2025 season. Located on Somerset Avenue, this nostalgic business has a rich history dating back to the late 1930s when it was first known as the PX and operated as a gas station and convenience store. The restaurant marked the occasion by continuing its tradition of offering half-priced hot dogs from opening day on February 27th through the weekend until March 2nd, much to the delight of the local community.
Frates Drive-In Restaurant has undergone several ownership changes throughout its history. Starting with Charlie "Red" Berry in the early 1950s, followed by Glen Cambra who operated it for 28 years. After a brief closure and period of disrepair, former employee Dennis De Silva purchased and renovated Frates in 2008, reopening it in April 2009. The restaurant changed hands again in 2014 when Dennis sold it to Greg Klisiaris, the current owner. Frates Drive-In prides itself on maintaining a family-friendly atmosphere with quality food and ice cream, accompanied by 1950s music playing in the background.
